We started a new series last week, looking at the life of Joseph and we began seeing how God, The Great Planner was maneuvering and orchestrating his life bringing him into the fullness of the dream God had for him. That same God is planning your life today.
Jeremiah 29:11 NLT
For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
Jeremiah 29:11 MSG
I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.
Romans 15:13 NKJV
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
- Joseph was forsaken.
Joseph’s brothers were consumed with hatred, envy and jealousy towards him. They wanted to kill him and get him out of the way. Instead they threw him into a pit and eventually sold him as a slave and he landed up in Egypt. And that was God’s plan for him. He was not supposed to go back to his father but to Egypt. And you might be struggling with the pain of some situations that have happened to you. But God can take the good, the bad and the ugly and make something beautiful out of the ashes of your life.
Genesis 39:1-6 NKJV
Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. And Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him down there. 2 The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. 3 And his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all he did to prosper in his hand. 4 So Joseph found favor in his sight, and served him. Then he made him overseer of his house, and all that he had he put under his authority. 5 So it was, from the time that he had made him overseer of his house and all that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the Lord was on all that he had in the house and in the field. 6 Thus he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand, and he did not know what he had except for the bread which he ate. Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance.
God’s plan is for you to be an overseer. In charge. Because you have the Blessing and God wants that Blessing to flow from the top down.
Proverbs 29:2 NKJV
When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice.
God starts blessing that place where you are at and overseeing because you have The Blessing. Now, you might not be in the Palace yet but be faithful in Potiphar’s house. Because God blesses and promotes faithfulness. It starts in the house first. Be faithful in the house and then God will promote you to your Palace.
You need to pray this often, “God before you put something in my hand, first do something with my heart”. If God closes a door, don’t try and jump in through the window. Let God open doors for you on its own accord.
- Joseph was falsely accused
God prospered Joseph – even in slavery, so that his master put him in charge of his estate. But then his master’s wife falsely accused Joseph of assaulting her, and he was thrown into prison. Now the minute you get up and start ruling, the devil is going to try and bring you down. He doesn’t want you in charge and on top. He will devise plans to bring you down.
Understand that the devil also has plans for your life. But’s it not to prosper you, it’s to destroy you. But don’t give him any attention and any airtime. Deal with him and get him out of the way.
Genesis 39: 7-23 NKJV
And it came to pass after these things that his master’s wife cast longing eyes on Joseph, and she said, “Lie with me.”
8 But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Look, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand. 9 There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”
You see Joseph knew he would be sinning against God not anyone else. That is how we should be. We must know that God is watching us and we will be sinning against him. We must have a fear of God. Reverence and respect for Him.
10 So it was, as she spoke to Joseph day by day, that he did not heed her, to lie with her or to be with her.
If the devil is tempting you day by day, then you must refuse and resist him day by day. Don’t give in.
11 But it happened about this time, when Joseph went into the house to do his work, and none of the men of the house was inside, 12 that she caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand, and fled and ran outside. 13 And so it was, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and fled outside, 14 that she called to the men of her house and spoke to them, saying, “See, he has brought in to us a Hebrew to mock us. He came in to me to lie with me, and I cried out with a loud voice. 15 And it happened, when he heard that I lifted my voice and cried out, that he left his garment with me, and fled and went outside.”
16 So she kept his garment with her until his master came home. 17 Then she spoke to him with words like these, saying, “The Hebrew servant whom you brought to us came in to me to mock me; 18 so it happened, as I lifted my voice and cried out, that he left his garment with me and fled outside.”
19 So it was, when his master heard the words which his wife spoke to him, saying, “Your servant did to me after this manner,” that his anger was aroused. 20 Then Joseph’s master took him and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were confined. And he was there in the prison.
Have you ever been falsely accused? Have you done what was right but got rewarded for doing something that was wrong? And no matter how many times you defend yourself, they still don’t believe your side of the story.
Be very careful that you don’t judge people and say that those bad things and challenges are happening to them because of sin in their lives. Like Joseph, they might just be experiencing that, because they are on the right path. Now if that was some Christians, they would have become so bitter and say, you see, I chose to follow God and look where I ended up.
Don’t see everything from your perspective when you go through a trial. See everything from God’s perspective. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT as to how we respond when things happen to us. It determines how and when we will come out. You have to say, “God has a plan here. I might not see everything clearly yet, but God has a plan to get me out of this mess”.
When people falsely accuse you (keeping in mind that it’s instigated and inspired by the devil), those situations can cause you to become very angry. And no matter how many people you run to, explain your situation to, they end up not hearing you and understanding your side of the story. BUT DON’T BE WORRIED AND TROUBLED ABOUT WHAT PEOPLE THINK, REJOICE IN WHAT HEAVEN KNOWS.
1 Peter 2:21-23 NKJV
For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:
22 “Who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth”;
23 who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himselfto Him who judges righteously;
Like Jesus, don’t revile in return, don’t threaten them, but let God be your Righteous Judge and defend you.
Psalm 109:1-4 NKJV
Do not keep silent, O God of my praise!
2 For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful have opened against me; they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.
3 They have also surrounded me with words of hatred, and fought against me without a cause.
4 In return for my love they are my accusers, But I give myself toprayer.
When you keep defending yourself, keeping your mouth open all the time, then God keeps silent. But when you close your mouth and begin to pray for them and the situation, then God will speak up for you. Allow God to defend you. If you fight back, you will fight alone but if you release the love of God towards them, then all of heaven will back you up.
BUT HERE’S THE GOOD NEWS!
21 But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gavehim favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. 22 And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners who were in the prison; whatever they did there, it was his doing. 23 The keeper of the prison did not look into anything that was under Joseph’s authority, because the Lord was with him; and whatever he did, the Lord made it prosper.
No matter what comes against you and no matter who falsely accuses you or plots against you, when you know you are doing the right thing and you know you are on the right path, then no weapon formed against you shall prosper.
Criticism is a complement when you know you are doing the right thing.
