whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.
Ephesians 6:10-17 NKJV
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;
The first step to coming out of defeat and into certain victory
- Recognize the source of the opposition as being satan – and stand your ground.
Our enemy is satan. But God has given the equipment for victory over satan. There is no need to be overcome by him. There is no need for us to be defeated.
God’s Word and God’s armor are all the equipment we need to enforce the defeat of satan and his forces.
But many times, people don’t know whether God or the devil is doing certain things. They will say things like, “maybe God is trying to teach me something through this”. No! God uses His Word to teach us, correct us and instruct us. You see, God is not the only one at work in the earth, the devil is also at work. We just read that he is the god of this world. He’s the one who is ruling over people in darkness. But believers are not to be ruled by them. We are children of light and the devil is not our ruler.
God is not the god of this world, satan is. And the laws governing the earth largely came into being with the fall of man and the curse upon the earth. You see, God gave Adam authority over the earth and dominion over the works of His hands. But when Adam sinned in the garden, he gave his authority over to the devil and everything became cursed after that. But Jesus came and destroyed the works of the devil and took back the authority satan once had and Jesus gave it back to us. Now, even though the devil is still the god of this world, we have authority over him, and we have been given again dominion over the works of God’s hands.
Now because people don’t understand this, they end up accusing God of accidents, of sickness, of the death of loved ones, of storms, of catastrophes, earthquakes and floods. God is not responsible, neither is He the author, of any one of those things.
Jesus rebuked the storm. God the Father, never sent the storm. John 14:10 says God the Father who was in Jesus did the works. Now if God was sending the storm and Jesus rebuked the storm then God is working against Himself.
No! The devil sent the storm to stop Jesus from getting over to the other side because Jesus was about to meet the madman of Gadara and cast out the demons that were possessing him and holding that man and the entire city in fear and bondage.
It was the same with the healings Jesus performed. Jesus said, “The Father in me, He doeth the works.” All the healings, all the miracles, all the works that Jesus did, God did. If God were the author of sickness and disease, and God healed people through Jesus, then God worked against Himself.
So, determine the source. Recognize that satan is the source of opposition and stand your ground.
Jesus contrasted His works with the works of the devil.
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
Who is the thief? God, Jesus. A 100 times no. Jesus told us here what the devil’s mission is and what Jesus’ mission is. Don’t blame God for things the devil has done or is doing.
You see, when people start accusing and blaming God, then the enemy rejoices because he knows now, that they can’t come out of defeat because they think God is their problem or God is trying to teach them something through this.
It will absolutely erase all confusion as to where a thing comes from if we would just listen to God’s Word and recognize the source.
Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. 16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.
Most of us, however, from the time we were children, and before we could really read and get into the Word of God for ourselves, were religiously brainwashed. We have heard unscriptural things said all our lives—and sometimes even preached in the church we attended. What we heard was just the human mind trying to solve spiritual problems. And the human mind cannot solve spiritual problems.
If you will get into the Word of God, it will straighten out your thinking. Think in line with what God’s Word says—not necessarily with what you have been taught it says, nor what somebody told you it says. Ask yourself, “What does the Word of God say?”
Right thinking, right believing, right speaking produces right living.
The Bible tells us that when satan is finally eliminated from the earth, there will be nothing which hurts or destroys. That will be a great day. But, thank God, we do not have to let satan dominate us now. Even though he is the god of this world, he does not have the right to dominate the Church. He does not have the right to dominate us as believers.
