1 Corinthians 12:31 NKJV

But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.

The more excellent way that Paul was referring to was the Way of Love, the God kind of love.

Romans 5:5 NKJV

Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

God’s Love was deposited into our hearts when we got born again. You and I have the ability and the capacity to love like God loves.

Say this: “God is love and so am I”.

He placed His love nature inside of us. If you are born again, love is your supernatural, natural disposition. In other words, it’s natural for you and it’s part of your born-again nature to love. It’s not our nature to hate. It’s not our nature to be selfish. That’s the flesh and the carnal mind. But even though it is your nature, it will not simply take over your life without your cooperation. If you want to walk in love, you will have to make a decision to yield to the force of love on the inside of you.

The Bible speaks of 4 types of love.

Storge – Family love

Phileo – Friendship love

Eros – Love between a husband and wife

Agape – God kind of love

We focusing on Agape, the God kind of love. Now, don’t mistake natural human love for the God kind of love. They are not the same. Natural human love can turn into hatred overnight. Some people think that a Mothers love for a child is the same like the God kind of love. Not at all. A Mothers love can be very selfish. “That’s my baby”.

There is an unseen power that goes into operation when a person is developed in the agape love of God and knows how to walk in it! By walking in God’s agape love, you release a force to work on your behalf – a force that has all the appearance of weakness, but is stronger than any force in existence.

Love is the foundation. All the other fruit of the Spirit flow out of it.

Galatians 5:22-23 NKJV

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

Love is the bottom line. You and I can’t go anywhere spiritually or anywhere with our relationships until we get our love walk straight. If you want to grow in God, grow in the God kind of love because God is Love.

Some of you don’t realize this but not yielding and walking in God’s love is costing you, it’s holding you back. When we withhold love, we end up hurting ourselves more.

Start saying, “I love people and people love me. I need people and people need me”.

1 Corinthians 13:1 -13 NKJV

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

You can have all the faith in the world, but if you are not operating in the God kind of love, your faith will not work, because faith works by love.

Galatians 5:6 NKJV

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.

We can’t allow satan to cancel out our faith walk by cancelling out our love walk. We must stay in love of God and We must stay out of offense. Just like cars work by petrol, faith works by love.

And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.

You don’t see profit from your giving when you are not walking in love.

Paul begins to describe what Love is and what Love is not.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 AMPC

V4 Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily. V5 It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God’s love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking;

God’s Love doesn’t demand its own rights or its own way. God’s Love isn’t always “Me first”. It isn’t selfish and self-seeking. It gives up its right to be first. It gives up its right to be right. It gives up its right to have its own way.

When you wake up in the morning, selfishness is there? It takes the love of God, our love nature to overcome it and walk in power that day.

it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong].

One of the secrets of a long and fruitful life is to forgive everybody, everything, everyday, before you go to bed.

V6 It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail. V7 Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening].  V8 Love never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end]…

11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

You will have to resist the selfish tendencies of the flesh and choose to live a life governed or ruled by love.

Say…I am love ruled.

We are not talking about the emotional counterfeit the world calls love. That kind of love is dependent on circumstances and feelings. God’s love isn’t like that. It’s constant. It’s unconditional. The chief ingredient of the God kind of love is self-sacrifice for the benefit of the one loved. It continues to love people whether or not it receives a response. Divine love is not self-seeking. It is self-giving. God loves the lovely and the unlovely. And that is how He expects us to love others. We don’t have to be concerned about looking out for our rights, because when we walk in love, God will look out for our rights and take care of us.
