What is Prayer?

Prayer is fellowshipping with the Father – a vital personal contact with God, Who is more than enough. As believers, we are to be in constant communion with the Father.

Prayer is communication with God but you have not stopped praying until you have listened to what God is saying to you.

Prayer is not to be a religious form with no power. It is to be effective and accurate and bring results because God watches over His Word to perform it.

James 5:16 Amp

…The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working].

We are the righteousness of God and when we pray, our prayers avail much. They are dynamite in its working.

James 5:17-18 Amp

Elijah was a human being with a nature such as we have [with feelings, affections, and a constitution like ours]; and he prayed earnestly for it not to rain, and no rain fell on the earth for three years and six months.

And [then] he prayed again and the heavens supplied rain and the land produced its crops [as usual].

Heaven hears us when we pray. We are not trying to get God’s attention, we already have it.

1 Peter 3:12 Amp

For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous (those who are upright and in right standing with God), and His ears are attentive to their prayer.

We are the righteousness of God and His ears are open to our prayers.

1 Peter 3:12 NKJV

For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers.

Prayer is to be exciting – not drudgery. It takes someone to pray because God moves as we pray in faith – believing.

2 Chronicles 16:9 Amp

For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong in behalf of those whose hearts are blameless toward Him.

The Bible says that we are blameless and we can expect God to show Himself strong on our behalf.

Ephesians 1:4 NKJV

Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love.

We are blameless and we are the righteousness of God and He hears us when we pray.

2 Corinthians 5:21 NKJV

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

The reason why God wants you to spend time fellowshipping with Him, is so that He can keep telling you how much He loves you.

God wants us to come boldly to His throne and obtain mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Hebrews 4:16 Amp

Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God’s unmerited favor to us…that we receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it].

Our God is the Great Rectifier, the Great Changer and the Great One of Grace that turns your mistakes for your good.

God is always ready to answer our prayers but Prayer that brings results must be based on God’s Word.

Jeremiah 1:12 NKJV

Then the Lord said to me, “You have seen well, for I am ready to perform my Word.”

God watches over His Word to perform it. God’s Word is our contact with Him.

Hebrews 4:12 Amp

For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power – making it active, operative, energizing and effective; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [that is, of the deepest parts of our nature] exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.

Prayer is this “Living” Word in our mouths. Our mouths must speak forth faith, for faith pleases God (Heb 11:6). We hold His Word up to Him in prayer, and our Father sees Himself in His Word.

We put Him in remembrance of His Word, asking Him for what we need in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Isaiah 43:25-26 NKJV

I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins.

Put me in remembrance; let us contend together; state your case, that you may be acquitted.

We remind God that He supplies all of our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:19 NKJV

And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Your provision is coming from a higher place in a higher way from God’s riches in glory.

God has unusual and unlimited avenues of providing for you that extend beyond your natural limitations.

We pray to the Father, in the name of Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, according to the Word.

John 16:23 NKJV

And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.
