  • If you need a prayer on any specific situation visit

In this Lesson we will start out looking at the different kinds or types of prayer that the Bible speaks about. There are different scriptural prayers for Christians to use on different occasions.

  1. The Prayer of Petition and Supplication (also known as The Prayer of Faith)

We use the prayer of petition and supplication as a formal request to believe for something specific you know God has promised you in His Word. And then expect your answer to come!

The words petition and supplication are defined as “a formal request addressed to a higher power.” This prayer changes things. (It doesn’t change God).

Hebrews 13:8 NKJV

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

It is based on Philippians 4:6 NKJV

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.

To illustrate, suppose you obtained an audience with the governor of your state. After you went through the proper channels, would you then enter his office without being prepared? Of course not! You would have your ideas formulated and the arguments settled in your mind long before you obtained an audience with him.

Shouldn’t you handle yourself in the same way when approaching God? Hebrews 4:16 says, “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace….”

Do not go into the prayer of petition and supplication without knowing what you want to say and how you want to say it. Enter the throne room with your petition drawn up according to God’s Word.

Ask yourself these questions: What happened at Calvary? How did the substitutionary sacrifice of Jesus affect this trial I am facing? Then, find out what God has already done regarding your situation. If you need healing, look up those scriptures pertaining to healing. Present your petition. No matter what your situation may be, God has provided an answer for it in His Word. The Cross paid the price for your deliverance.

Mark 11:24-25 NKJV

Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.

The prayer of faith believes that it has already received it and begins to thank God for it. And then expects to see the manifestation of it.

v.25 And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.

Unforgiveness is a blessing blocker. It keeps your faith from working. It stops the flow of The Blessing and it hinders the plan of God for your life. Give the devil no opportunity by getting into worry, unforgiveness, strife and criticism.

We said, do not go into the prayer of petition and supplication without knowing what you want to say and how you want to say it. Enter the throne room with your petition drawn up according to God’s Word.

Now, Stand on God’s Word. Once you’ve prayed, Talk the answer, not the problem. The answer is God’s Word.

You must commit to ordering your conversation aright.

Psalm 50:23 KJV

Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.

That is being a doer of the Word. Faith always has a good report. You cannot pray effectively for yourself, for someone else, or about something and then talk negatively about the matter.

This is being double minded, and a double-minded man receives nothing from God.

Ephesians 4:29 Amp

Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word, nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth; but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God’s favor) to those who hear it.

Have the faith of God and approach Him confidently. When you pray according to His will, He hears you. Then you know you have what you ask of Him.

1 John 5:14-15 NKJV

Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we asked of Him.

The Word of God gives you the confidence that you need to go boldly to the throne of grace.

Once you lay hold of your petition by faith, don’t let go because your confidence will be richly rewarded.

Hebrews 10:35-36 NKJV

Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise.

Praise and give thanks to God now before any manifestation.

When you pray, you come into God’s presence but when you praise He comes into yours.

Praise and thanksgiving is the BIG GUN OF FAITH.

When your faith comes under pressure, don’t be moved. As Satan attempts to challenge you, resist him steadfastly in the faith. Resist doubt and unbelief.

Speak back and say, “Doubt I resist you, unbelief I resist you, I believe God. I believe His Word. I’m not moved by what I hear. I’m not moved by what I see and I’m not moved by what I feel. I’m moved by what I believe and I believe the Word of God”.

Let patience have her perfect work. Allow patience to run its full course in you.

James 1:2-4 Amp

Consider it wholly joyful, by brethren, whenever you are enveloped in or encounter trials of any sort or fall into various temptations.

Be assured and understand that the trial and proving of your faith bring out endurance and steadfastness and patience.

But let endurance and steadfastness and patience have full play and do a thorough work, so that you may be people perfectly and fully developed with no defects, lacking in nothing.

James 5:11 Amp

You know how we call those blessed (happy) who were steadfast [who endured]. You have heard of the endurance of Job, and you have seen the Lord’s [purpose and how He richly blessed him in the] end, inasmuch as the Lord is full of pity and compassion and tenderness and mercy.

Commit yourself to pray, and to pray correctly, by approaching the throne with your mouth filled with His Word!
