Becoming Acquainted With Your Heavenly Father

Matthew 6:25-34

Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your HEAVENLY FATHER feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we drink?” or “What shall we wear?” For after all these things the Gentiles seek.

For your HEAVENLY FATHER knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Our theme is growing up spiritually and we need to grow by becoming acquainted with our heavenly Father.

There is no truth in all the Bible as far reaching as the blessed fact that if we have been born-again and come into the family of God, God the Father is our Father, and He cares for us.

He is interested in us. I mean in each one of us individually; not just as a group, or a body, or a church. He is interested in each of His children and He loves every single one of us with the same love.

Our heavenly Father has enough love for each one of us. He is not going around saying; “I love you, I love you not.” He loves us all the same and He loves us just as much as He loves Jesus. He is going around saying, “I love you; I love you; I love you.”

John 17:23

I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.

God told Kenneth Copeland one day that this will be the hardest thing for people to believe: “That I love them just as much as I love Jesus.”

What God told Joyce Meyer!

So many are in prison because they won’t accept themselves. So many are so gifted and talented but they won’t express themselves because they fear rejection. They fear man. They fear what people will think.

I want to love my people, but they hold me at arm’s length and won’t let me really love them because they have been hurt by others. They fear I will reject them because of their weaknesses like people have. But I will never reject them.

Tell them I love them. Ask them to stop trying so hard to be acceptable to me and to realize I accept them where they are. Tell them I don’t want perfect performance from them. I want them to love me and to let me love them.

The Father will never leave you nor forsake you even if you don’t perform perfectly.

People might leave you and people might forsake you but God never will. His love is unconditional towards you with no strings attached.

Isaiah 49:14-16

But Zion said; “The Lord has forsaken me, and my Lord has forgotten me.” “Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, Yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me”.

It is possible for family to forget all about you but God will never forget you.

Psalm 27:10

When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take care of me.

Hebrews 13:5-6

.For He Himself has said; “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”

Isaiah 62:3-4

You shall also be a crown of glory in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. You shall no longer be termed Forsaken, nor shall your land any more be termed Desolate; But you shall be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah; For the Lord delights in you, and your land shall be married.

So stop seeing yourself as forsaken and unloved. God has not forgotten about you. He will never leave you nor forsake you.

So start saying; “My Father loves me, He believes in me, My Father delights in me, I am owned by the Lord. My heavenly Father takes care of me”.

You must believe the love God has for you. You must receive the love your heavenly Father has for you.

1 John 4:16

And we have known and believed the love that God has for us….

Do not evaluate God’s love for you by what you go through. When you have money in the bank, when your bills are paid, when you have groceries in your home, when you have petrol in your car, then you say “God loves me”. But when those things are not there and if you have to pray and believe God for them, then you say; “God does not love me.”

You are evaluating God’s love for you by your circumstances and by what you going through. You are asking your circumstances if God loves you.

No! God loves you before you went through the trial, He loved you during the trial and He will love you after He has brought you through your trial. Every

morning when I get up, the Word of God still says that He loves me as much as He loves Jesus. The Father’s love for you remains consistent.

You become acquainted with the Father through His Word. The Father reveals Himself through His Word. You don’t become acquainted with God through your feelings because your feelings change.

Smith Wigglesworth said, I can’t understand God by feelings. I understand God the Father by what the Word says about Him. He is everything the Word says He is. Get acquainted with the Father through the Word.”

The Jews struggled with the revelation from Jesus that God is now their Father and that He was kind and loving. In the Old Testament they grew up in a very hard, harsh atmosphere of justice. The Old Covenant was the covenant of the law of sin and death. God demanded justice for their sins and wrongdoings and so God set up the Levitical Priesthood to deal with the sins of the nation once a year.

No one could enter the Holy of Holies where God’s Presence was except the High priest and then he had to do it under great precaution as well. So this was this hard, harsh atmosphere they had come up in. It is no wonder that when Jesus came along to introduce them to a loving, kind, heavenly Father, they couldn’t understand it.

But that is not only true concerning the Jews but also true concerning many sons and daughters of Almighty God today. They have never really become acquainted with Him as being their Father.

Here are some of the things Jesus said about the Father:

John 16:23

And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my My name He will give you.

The Father will give you, He won’t take from you. His love nature compels Him to give to us.

Matthew 6:33

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Things won’t be taken from you; they’ll be added to you. This proves the Father cares for His children.

The Father gives us richly all things to enjoy.

1 Timothy 6:17

Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.

He is not giving and then taking. When you encounter trials of any sort, it’s very important that you assess God correctly. Don’t blame your heavenly Father for things He has not done.

John 10v10

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

The devil is the one who steals, kills and destroys. Jesus is the One who brings us life and life more abundantly.

James 1:12-17

Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.

Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

Every good and perfect gift comes from the Father above. He is not sending bad things, He is sending good things.

John 16:27

For the Father Himself loves you,….

Matthew 6:8

For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. Verse 9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven

Thank God He is our Father. As a believer, you are a child of God and part of His Family. Your acceptance of Jesus Christ positions you to have a relationship with the Father. Though we are all God’s creation, we are not all His children. You become a child of God when you become born again.

God is not the Father of unbelievers. Jesus said to the most religious people of His day in:

John 8:44

You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do.

But if you are born again, then God is your Father and you have become part of His Family. As a Father He has a covenant responsibility towards you.

He may be Judge to the world and God to the sinner, but He’s Father to me. You are His child and He will take care of you.

Matthew 6:25

Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life,…..

If you can’t help worrying, remember worrying can’t help you either. Worry is like a rocking chair: It keeps you going but you don’t get anywhere.

Worry is time spent meditating on the lies of the devil.

Guard your thoughts. Cast down vain imaginations.

Verse 34

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow,…

God doesn’t want His children full of worry. He doesn’t want us full of fretting. Why? Because He loves us. He cares for us.

Worry is a responsibility that God never intended for us to carry. It is not the load that breaks you down, it’s your decision to carry it.

A famous poem says it best:

Said the robin to the sparrow, I should really like to know, why these anxious human beings rush about and worry so. Said the sparrow to the robin, I think that it might be, that they have no Heavenly Father such as cares for you and me.

Oh, thank God, He does care for us. Your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.

If He is your Father, you can be assured He will take a Father’s place and will perform a Father’s part. So have no worry, no fret, no anxiety, and no fear.

2 Timothy 1:7

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

So do not fear and give no place to fear in your life.

Verse 33

Therefore do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we drink?” or “What shall we wear?”

When you talk that way, you are without faith. The key here is to have faith in your Father.

You need to say, “I have faith in my Father to clothe me, I have faith in my Father to provide for me, I have faith in my Father to take care of me, I have faith in my Father to love me”.

Kellie Copeland said;

Do you realize that in any battle you face, fear will cause you to lose? In fear, we say the wrong things and do the wrong things. But when you begin to plead the Blood of Jesus, faith is built up and fear loses its grip on you. In the absence of fear you make the right decisions and you speak the Word of God and victory is yours.

So the first words out of your mouth should always be, “I will not fear, I refuse fear. I believe the love my heavenly Father has for me”.

John 14:21-23

He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him. Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?” Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word, and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.

Jesus will manifest Himself, the Father will manifest Himself to you, when you believe and receive the love they have for you. People, who don’t receive His love, live in a place of destitution even though they don’t need to. The religious people did not receive from Jesus and they lived without God’s help in their lives.

Matthew 23:37-38 Amp

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, murdering the prophets and stoning those who are sent to you! How often would I have gathered your children together as a mother fowl gathers her brood under her wings, and you refused! Behold, your house is forsaken and desolate (abandoned and left destitute of God’s help).

So we see that it’s very important for you to receive God’s love.

1 John 4:18

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

Allow God’s love to run its full course in you. There is no fear in God’s love. God’s love casts out all fear. So if a fearful thought comes, just say; I am resting in God’s love today. I believe the love God has for me. I put faith in His love for me. I will observe and experience acts and demonstrations of My Father’s love for me today.

The great Father God is a love God. His very nature – because He is Love – compels Him to care for us, protect us, and shield us.

Matthew 7:11

If you then, being evil [natural], know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

How much more! If you are a parent, would you have it as your plan, purpose and will that your children go through life poverty-stricken, nose-to-the-grindstone, sick, afflicted, downtrodden, downcast, down-and- out? No! Parents will sacrifice because they love their children. They will work and sacrifice to help their children gain an education so they can have things better in life than what they had.

Parents want to shield them, because they love them, from some of the bumps and knocks and hard times they had. Natural parents are like that. How much more will your Father who is heaven give good things to you when you ask Him? We hold the same relationship to the Father that Jesus did when He walked on earth.

John 17:23

I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.

The Father loves us just as He loved Jesus! And if He loves me as He loves Jesus, then I’m not afraid to face life’s problems because He is with me as He was with the Master.

John 16:32

Indeed the hour is coming, yes, has now come, that you will be scattered, each to his own, and will leave Me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.

Thank God we are not alone. You and I can say; “I am not alone because the Father is with me”.

Psalm 23:4

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me;….

John 16:27

For the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came forth from God.

The Father Himself loves you. He loves you based on what Jesus has done for you. The Father Himself knows you. He knows all your weaknesses and strengths and accepts you as you are. Nothing can be stronger or more comforting than this fact.

Now because the Father Himself loves you, He wants you to abandon yourself to His love and His care.

1 Peter 5:7

Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

1 Peter 5:7 Amplified

Casting the whole of your care, all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.

So God wants us to end worry – to end fear and doubt. You can do it! You do it by casting all your cares, worries and anxieties over on Him.

Psalm 55:22 Amplified

Cast your burden on the Lord (releasing the weight of it) and He will sustain you. He will never allow the consistently righteous to be moved (made to slip, fall or fail).

We think that we are not being responsible if we don’t worry. The most responsible thing that you can do is to give your cares to God.

Philippians 4:6 Amp

Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God.

That is our Heavenly Father speaking to us. We should not be anxious about anything. If it’s something to worry about, then it’s definitely something to pray about. Instead of worrying about it, pray about it. Give it to your heavenly Father. He will take care of it. As a Father He will meet your needs!

Philippians 4:19

And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Our heavenly Father wants us to know that He will supply and meet all our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 3:20

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.

Romans 8:35-39

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come,

Nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Thank God that nothing can separate us from the love that the Father has for us.
