As  Christians,  it’s  our  responsibility  to  learn  more  about  the  Person  of  the  Holy  Spirit.  Its  God’s  will  and  desire that we have an intimate relationship with Him. The Holy Spirit is a Gentleman and He will not force Himself on us. We must open ourselves up to Him. The more we become aware of Him, the more we open up ourselves to Him, the more we will begin to recognize Him. You must understand that the Holy Spirit needs to be needed. He is always there but He waits on us to ask Him for help.

Do you realize that the Holy Spirit helps some people more than others? The reason for that is because some people choose to ask the Holy Spirit for help from the time they open their eyes in the morning until they go to bed at night. He is constantly on their minds, listening for His instructions while others don’t pay any attention to Him at all.

Who is the Holy Spirit?

He is the Third Person of the Godhead. He is a real Person but more than that, He is a Divine Person. The Trinity is made up of:

The Father (God the Father) The Son (Jesus Christ) The Holy Spirit (Spirit of the Living God)

They are all One. They are all in Unity, but they are three Divine Persons. They have different functions, different responsibilities, but they are three Divine Persons.

The  Holy  Spirit  is  not  an  “IT”.  He  is  not  an  impersonal  being.  He  is  not  a  force  or  a  power.  He  is  a  real  Person. He is just as real as the Father and Jesus. And  He  has  come  to  live  inside  you  and  me.  You  can’t  fellowship  with  inanimate  objects.  You  can’t  fellowship  with  an  “It”.  A  chair  is  an  “it”.  A  piano  is  an  “it”  but the Holy Spirit is a real Person. You can fellowship with a Person. You can fellowship with the Holy Spirit.

2 Corinthians 13:14

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen

The word communion is the same word for fellowship. The fellowship of the Holy Spirit is with us. We can fellowship with Him. We can talk to Him and He is able to respond to us. In this verse we also see all three Divine Persons present. Jesus Christ, God the Father and the Holy Spirit. 3 Divine Persons.

In John 14:16-17 and John 16:7-15, there are about 17 references where Jesus referred to the Holy Spirit in a masculine form.

Jesus  talks  about  the  Holy  Spirit  as  “He,  Him.  His”.  So  the  Holy  Spirit  is  a  real  Person.

While Jesus was on earth, He told His disciples that when He leaves, He will send the Holy Spirit to them, which will be to their advantage.

John 16:7

Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you, but if I depart, I will send Him to you.

So Jesus sent the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is not in Heaven, He is here on earth. He is with us.

John 14:16-17

And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever – the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

In  the  above  verse,  the  Greek  for  “Another Helper”  means,  “Another  One  just  like  the  first  one,  who  is  Jesus”.  He  is  exactly  like  Jesus.  When Jesus was on the earth, He was only One Person who could only be in One Place at One Time. But now that the Holy Spirit is here, He can be with every person, in any place, at any time. That is why Jesus said that it will be to your advantage when I go away. It will be better for you. So wherever you are, God is with you right there. Wherever you go, God goes with you. The Holy Spirit, who is God, is in you.

1 John 4:4

You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

So He is in you. The Holy Spirit is in you. The Greater One is in you. Learn to look to Him. Learn to ask Him and learn to listen to Him. He will show you and He will guide you into all truth. He will never leave you nor forsake you. (Hebrews 13:5)

But it becomes our responsibility to let the Holy Spirit become more real to us. We must allow Him to rise up big in us. We must become more aware of Him. We must pay attention to Him. Listen to Him and respond to Him.

When you get up in the morning, always check your heart. Greet the Holy Spirit and thank Him that He is in you and that He is with you.

Ask Him, “Holy Spirit is there anything I need to know. Is there anything I need to give attention to? You know everything; You know what is happening in my life. You know where I need to be and You know what I need to do. So I’m listening to You today, I’m listening for Your voice. I’m looking to You to lead and guide me into all truth.

That is how you can start to fellowship with Him. It is vitally important that when He begins to nudge you, begins  to  unction  you  to  do  something  or  go  somewhere,  that  you  obey  Him  instantly.  Don’t  ignore  His  leading  and  don’t  ignore  His  direction. Whatever Jesus tells you to do, just do it. Whatever the Holy Spirit tells you to do, just do it. (John 2v5)

John 14:17 Amp

And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counsellor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener and Standby), that He may remain with you forever.

The Holy Spirit is Our Comforter

The Holy Spirit is always there to comfort us when we experience any kind of trouble, pain or loss. When a loved one dies and passes on, He is right there to comfort you and ease you day by day. He is the greatest Comforter you will ever find. When others have left and are all gone, He is the One who will never leave you nor forsake you. He will be right there to comfort you again. When you experience rejection from others, He will be the One to comfort and console you.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

So the Father comforts us through the Person of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our Comforter. Let God use you by the Holy Spirit to comfort others who experience times of trouble.

The Holy Spirit is our Counsellor

He counsels us in every matter so that we deal wisely with every affair of life. Whenever you need to help and minister to people, always ask the Holy Spirit to help counsel through you. Don’t just develop pet answers for people’s problems and situations. Ask Him to lead and guide you. He will show you what to say.

You don’t need to meditate before the time on what you are going to say.

Matthew 10v19-20

But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.

Isaiah 50v4

The Lord God has given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary. He awakens me morning by morning, He awakens my ear to hear as the learned.

The Holy Spirit is our Teacher

He teaches us all things.

John 14:26

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

Isaiah 30:21

Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” Whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left.

That’s talking about your spiritual ears. Hearing God’s voice on the inside. Be careful that you don’t look to the outside and look to external things to confirm what God is saying to you. He leads us by His Blessed Holy Spirit who lives in our spirit. He leads and guides us from the inside. Don’t put out fleeces.

Isaiah 48v16-17

Come near to Me, hear this: I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; From the time that it was, I was there. And now the Lord God and His Spirit have sent Me. Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, The Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way you  should  go.”

Ps. 32v8-9

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. Do not be like the horse or like the mule, which have no understanding, which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, else they will not come near you.

So stop saying, “I  don’t know, I don’t know what to do. I just don’t know. I’m afraid I’m going to miss it.” That is not what God said. He said He will instruct you and teach you. So you must agree with God.

You must say, “God, You are instructing me, You are teaching me in the way I should go. I know what to do, I know which way to go, I know what decision to make”. Now you in faith and now the door is wide open for the Holy Spirit to guide you and show you what to do.

When God instructs you and when God speaks to you,  don’t be stubborn and resistant. Learn to yield and learn to obey quickly. The more you learn to obey Him, the more sensitive you will become to His voice and His leading.

If you want God to be more real to you then you must learn to respond to Him. You must obey Him. If you ignore Him, then you will become dull to His voice and leading. If you are asking God to give you a burning bush experience or to speak to you in an audible voice first, before you obey, then chances are, you are being stiff necked and hard hearted. God wants us to be like well-trained racehorses that are ever sensitive and ready to go when He speaks.

1 John 2v20

But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.

Verse 27

But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you, but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.

This verse does not mean that you don’t need people in the body of Christ to teach you. It means that the Holy Spirit will teach you what to do, what to say and which way to go on a daily basis in your own personal life. It is also speaking about the anointing protecting you from those who would try to mislead and deceive you.

So you need the Holy Spirit to lead, guide and teach you on a daily basis.

You will never know enough and you will never be smart enough to always know what the best decision is to make in life. We don’t know the future, that is why you need the Holy Spirit to show you  because He knows everything about everything and He’s smarter than we are. He knows what’s best.

The Holy Spirit will lead you to be at the right place at the right time if you will listen to Him. When you obey and things fall in place for you, people will end up thinking you so smart. But no! You just listened to the Holy Spirit, you obeyed and you came to a place of victory in your life over that situation.

Luke 2:25-28

And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death  before he  had  seen  the  Lord’s  Christ.

So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law, he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said:..

Simeon was at the right place at the right time because He was led by the Spirit of God.

And God will do the same for you if you learn to listen to the Holy Spirit, pay attention to Him and obey Him when He prompts you to do something or go somewhere.

Be careful that you don’t keep running to people asking them what to do. If you follow wrong advice, then it’s your fault because you have the Counsellor in you to counsel you in every matter so that you can deal wisely in every affair of life.

You are not to look to people, asking them to lead you.

Now that does not mean that you don’t bounce things off other people. When it comes to major decisions, it’s always wise to bounce things off other people to get confirmation if it’s the right thing you doing. But learn to look to Him. The Holy Spirit is with you 24/7. You can ask Him anytime. He will always be right there standing by you to help you. He is your Standby.

Confession

The Holy Spirit is my Comforter, my Counsellor, my Helper, my Intercessor, my Advocate, my Strengthener and Standby.

Thank  you  Holy  Spirit  that  You  are  with  me.  You  are  the  Greater  One  and  You  are  in  me.  I’m  aware  of  You.  I’m  open  to  you  and  I’m  listening  to You today. I will respond to You. Rise up big in me. Thank you for giving illumination to my mind, thank you for giving direction to my spirit.

I am being led. I will make the right decision. I am being directed. I hear Him.

I am always at the right place at the right time, doing the right thing because I am led by the Spirit of God.  I  always  hear  a  way  out.  I  always  see  a  way  out.  Answers  don’t  escape  me;  answers  are  continually coming to me. I hear my Shepherds voice and the voice of a stranger I will not follow.
